Transparent deliverables need edge checks because the final background may differ from the canvas used during painting. A clean silhouette on white can reveal pale fringes on a dark page, while a soft shadow can behave differently across colored panels. Prepare transparency deliberately and inspect the exported asset against the backgrounds its intended uses require.
Separate the reusable subject from its backdrop
Identify which parts belong in the asset: the subject, attached details, and any agreed shadow or glow. Remove the review background from the export while retaining an editable source. Check small openings such as handle gaps and spaces between fingers. A transparent outer rectangle does not prove that every internal negative space has been separated correctly.
Inspect partially transparent boundaries for color contamination from an earlier background. Hair, soft paint, blur, and thin fabric can retain pale or dark edge colors even when alpha is present. Tightening the mask alone may shrink the subject without correcting those pixels. Repair the underlying edge color or rebuild the transition where needed, using a method appropriate to the source.
Place the subject over representative light, dark, and branded backgrounds. Use actual layout colors when available rather than relying only on a checkerboard. Check both the perimeter and pale internal shapes that can disappear against one background. If broad reuse needs separate light and dark variants, agree on those versions and label them clearly instead of forcing one unsuitable treatment across every context.
Inspect the final file and its integration
Export in the requested format with transparency support and confirm the actual alpha channel or transparent regions. A format choice alone does not create transparency, and some destinations flatten images onto a background. Open the file independently and inspect it in a simple layout. Distinguish an export failure from a receiving platform that changes the image during upload or placement.
Review at the final dimensions. Fine edges can become uneven after reduction, and tiny translucent details may vanish. Adjust the source or create a simplified small variant when the important silhouette depends on fragile marks. Avoid aggressive sharpening that produces new halos around the same boundary you are trying to clean. Judge the appearance at real size before enlarging it for diagnosis.
Check shadows and glows for their intended role. A ground shadow may be useful for one card layout but inappropriate when the character is placed on a dark header. Supply separate effects or variants when that is part of the agreement. Explain whether the recipient should add another shadow, because stacking a layout effect over an included one can create an unexpected dark patch.
Package the clean transparent file with clear dimensions and use labels, retaining the layered source and approved appearance examples in the archive. Keep test backgrounds out of the asset itself. A dependable transparent delivery preserves the intended subject boundary and remains readable in its actual placements, with known variants and limitations made explicit before the recipient begins integrating it.
